Searching Contents
Pie's search feature offers various ways of finding patterns in the depth of your pages. In its simplest form of application, the search functions compares the specified character string with the contents of all local pages in a case insensitive way, that is, strings like the, The and ThE are all treated the same. A match results in the respective page to be included in the forthcoming table.
- You can narrow your search by searching for instances that only match literally, that is, case sensitive. In this case,
the,TheandThEare not the same anymore, but treated as three different character strings. - A further restriction is to match only stand-alone instances of your phrases. Ticking this option, the string
kingwill only be found, if it stands for itself, like inking and queen, but not inasking. - If lots of pages are to be dealt with, you might want to search the name of the pages only instead of their entire content, and, if you don't find what you are looking for within the list of page names, proceed with the contents afterwards.
- Finally, you can treat the character search string as an extended regular expression. Doing so allows you tailor your string to match myriads of different patterns. Please see your favorite manual for how regular expressions work.
Note that only the latest version of pages are searched. If a pattern is part of a former version only, but not contained in the current edition, it will not be found.
